KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

  • Estimators are responsible for the preparation of lump sum and unit price tender submissions, for review by the Supervisor of Engineering and Estimating.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

To effectively complete the responsibilities of this position, the candidate must be able to complete the following:

• Maintain record of receipt and distribution of bid documents.
• Prepare Preliminary Descriptive Summary.
• Invite subcontractor quotations.
• Advise of changes in subcontractor information for file update.
• Review, analyze and check for completeness of bid documents. Query consultants as required to clear up any ambiguities/errors/omissions in tender documents prior to tender closing.
• Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits required and report back to office.
• Quantity take-offs.
• Summarize quantities, prepare spreadsheets for alternate and separate prices as required for tenders.
• Obtain prices for materials and equipment.
• Obtain, review and compile subcontractor quotations.
• Evaluate and provide cost and schedule impacts of the various alternative construction methods and materials.
• Prepare pre-tender preliminary construction schedule.
• Prepare overhead (general expenses) estimate.
• Assist with tender closing and delivery of tenders as required.
• Prepare post-bid analysis and Tender Results as required.
• Ensure that bid documents are returned to issuing party and deposits returned.
• Assist with on-site administration when required.
• Carry out other duties as may be required from time to time relative to estimating and on-site administration.
• Compile Cost Code breakdowns for successful tenders.
• Setup successful bids/tenders with accounting.
• Review and check for completeness of successful bid documents upon award.
• Review Merx and Coolnet for work opportunities.
• Assist in producing the weekly Proposed Tender List.
• Assist in Estimate Setup file maintenance.
• Assist Project Managers in various duties for ongoing projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1-5 years of related experience (Preference given to Utility Construction related experience.)
• Self motivated
• Team Player
• Good communication skills
• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Microsoft Projects, Primavera, Outlook, etc.)
• Valid Drivers License
• Secondary Education
